DESIGNING A SYSTEMIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS ARCHITECTURE FOR INTEROPERABILITY IN TOURISM The Case of Virtual Tourism Enterprises

Virtual Tourism Enterprises, as a new organizational model, are being increasingly seen as offering substantial competitive advantage, particularly for Small-Medium Enterprises (SMEs), enabling them to organize themselves in the form of a temporary alliance for the creation of dynamic tourism products. This paper is going to address the main requirements and research challenges by suggesting an information systems architecture for a Virtual Tourism Enterprise, focusing on a systemic approach that combines (a) enterprise modelling and dynamic simulation to design the business integration model for the VE, with (b) the design of a flexible and innovative architecture to enhance interoperability and collaboration among agents, and which is going to serve as a paradigm for the analysis, design and implementation of efficient and flexible Virtual Travel Agent (VTA) information systems.
